Telegraphic Transfer (T/T)

T/T is the most common payment method for fertilizer orders. The standard structure is 30% advance payment with the order confirmation (which triggers production) and 70% balance payment against the copy of the bill of lading and shipping documents (which triggers release of the original documents for customs clearance at destination). T/T is fast, simple, and has low bank charges (typically $30-50 per transfer). It is suitable for established buyer-supplier relationships and medium-sized orders. The Buyer bears slightly more risk because the advance payment is made before shipment.

Letter of Credit (L/C)

An L/C is a bank guarantee that the Buyer's bank will pay the supplier upon presentation of compliant shipping documents. The standard form is an Irrevocable L/C at Sight, meaning payment is released immediately when documents are presented and verified. L/C is recommended for large orders (typically over $100,000), first-time transactions, and government tenders where payment security is paramount.
